Kitchen Hero, bringing cooking back home by Donal Skehan
‘Ireland’s answer to Jamie Oliver.’, that’s the way RTE describes Donal Skehan, the young Irish chef from Howth, county Dublin. I’ve been following his cooking journey for years now and I simply love this guy! He’s such a happy, creative, bubbly person and his recipes are just to die for. He’s been featured on TV, had his own magazine in 2014, has his own Youtube channel, blog, and has written 5 books. On my last visit to Ireland I was finally able to buy a copy of his book ‘Kitchen Hero, bringing cooking back home’ and I loved it from page one until page 217, every recipe was right up my street and what’s even more amazing is that he did the photography for the book too, which wasn’t that much of a surprise seeing as how Donal worked with his aunt, one of Ireland’s top food stylists, during his teens and got the chance to work alongside some of Ireland’s top food photographers including Jocasta Clarke and Walter Pfeiffer.
All the recipes in the book are very accessible and by that I mean that they don’t require any odd or special ingredients that’ll take you weeks just to find them. But at the same time his food is all very original, creative and tasty and these recipes will really lift up your day to day kitchen experience.

Donal’s recipes really pack a punch when it comes to flavour, but they are also wonderfully simple and straightforward, making them perfect for novice chefs and equally appealing to the more practised cook.
His personality shines through on every page – from his writing, which is as fun and delicious as his food, to the stunning photographs that were all taken by Donal himself. You cannot fail to get caught up in Donal’s enthusiasm for healthy home cooking.
