OATrageous Oatmeals by Kathy Hester
Not too long ago I was contacted by a book publisher, to ask me if I wanted to try out some recipes from a book they were going to publish in Belgium shortly. The title of the book was ‘Heerlijke Havermout’ or ‘OATrageous oatmeals’, written by blogger Kathy Hester, who has been living meatless since 1983. When I received the book, I was quite surprised by some of the recipes featured in the book, it’s unbelievable how many meals you can create with oats! Indian oats upma for instance, or stir-fried veggie oats and eggplant pizza sliders.
I posted a recipe from the book already but I wanted to share the book itself with you guys too. It’s a great book for anyone who’s never tried anything with oats before, or who wants to expand their knowledge of oats and use it for more than just basic breakfasts. It’s also highly recommended for anyone who wants to try and eat more vegan or who is looking for gluten-free or soy-free recipes, as Kathy includes alternatives in each recipe to make it just that.
I know a lot of you may have never tried vegan before and might be a bit skeptical to giving it a go but I guarantee you won’t be disappointed! Vegan doesn’t mean tasteless or weird food, it is simply using other delicious ingredient. Though I haven’t cooked a lot of vegan food before, I have the utmost respect for people who are putting vegan food on the map, proving that it’s just another way of expanding the food you put on the table that you have never tasted before, rather than something that limits your food options. Trying some vegan recipes once in a while will be very inspiring, no doubt about it!
