Eat.Live.Go by Donal Skehan
The quick and easy cookbook from Irish TV star and Saturday Kitchen host Donal Skehan
My favourite Irish chef, Donal Skehan, is back with a brand new book called “Eat.Live.Go – Fresh food fast” and I am so excited to feature it as my book tip of the month November! Skehan is ab absolute joy to follow and his recipes are nothing short of beautiful, stylish and delicious. This time he has gone for quick and easy recipes, for anyone who might have a busy day or life in general. Now as much as I love spending hours cooking, I do often find myself in need of some quick recipes, after a long day of work for example. But whenever I do, I always end up going for the same basic (and often really not creative) meals, but those days are now over for good thanks to Donal’s easy, fresh & fast recipes!
Book description
“EAT.LIVE.GO – Fresh Food Fast” is a collection of quick and easy recipes for busy and energetic lifestyles. Donal’s healthy approach to eating provides big flavour, the optimum nutrition the body needs, plus delicious treats. Donal offers up brilliant recipes to cook at home, from everyday eating with family and friends, to restorative meals to nurture and nourish, including dishes from Donal’s travels in Europe and South East Asia. “EAT.LIVE.GO – Fresh Food Fast” is a cookbook for anyone who loves good food and eating well.
Skehan says, “Eat, Live and Go are the three words that perfectly capture this moment for me. I wrote my last book Fresh (Hodder) as a means to take back control of life and the food I was eating, and Eat. Live. Go. is a celebration of just that – prioritising eating well, living a balanced lifestyle and taking time to travel and find inspiration from the world are all part of my current food story. These quick and simple recipes, whether rich and indulgent or light and healthy, provide full-on flavour.”
About the Author
Donal Skehan has been cooking since age four when he flipped his first pancake! Inspired by a family of passionate foodies, cooking and eating hearty home cooked food has always been a way of life. Donal is the author of seven cookbooks; Fresh was named as one of Good Food magazine’s Top 10 cookbooks of the year. He’s the host of Saturday Kitchen, star of cookery shows on RTE and The Food Network, and has his own hit YouTube channel. Donal was born and raised in Dublin and is currently living in LA.
Skehan: “It’s said that life is more about the journey than the destination . . . Now don’t roll your eyes just yet – I know I’ve been in California for a few weeks but this statement is one I’ve been clinging to for a while. If I’m honest there’s been a lot of soul-searching over the past two years considering a wedding, significant career changes and a move that saw us leave our home of seven years to try to find our place in a city on the other side of the world. During this slightly tumultuous time I’ve been hanging my hat on this “journey/destination” talk; in fact, it’s helped form the inspiration to write my latest cookbook. With all this back-and-forth, it has meant my cooking style has changed somewhat. There’s been a need for fast-cooking meals, instant nourishment and recipes that strike that fine line between eating well and providing indulgent satisfaction. Despite the ongoing debate between the healthy eating army and the butter brigade, when it comes down to it, I believe that balance in our cooking and eating is what we should really be striving for.
Eat.Live.Go is appropriately titled in that it sums up the cooking and eating I’ve been doing during this time. The chapters are filled with hearty home cooking recipes sprinkled with quick-fix meals and desserts to satisfy a sweet tooth. A collection of lighter meals, heavy on the vegetables to satisfy the inner green juicing yogi, and the best street eats and foreign feasts to make at home from my food travels to over 20 countries.
The hope of any cookbook author is that their collection of recipes will be well used and I hope in finding my balance with food I can inspire you to find what works for you. To do that the book aims to arm you with an arsenal of recipes that take inspiration from cuisines across the world, covering healthy dinners and quick food fixes to leisurely meals to enjoy around the table. The journey’s looking pretty good so far!”
