“Simple Vegetarian Recipes from My Cabin in the Woods”

As October is ‘Vegetarian Awareness Month’ I couldn’t help but go look for an amazing vegetarian book to select as my book tip of the month. There are quite a lot of brilliant veggie books out there but as I was trying to find a good one, I suddenly remembered this fantastic vegetarian book that is both art and food at the same time. It has to be the most beautifully designed cook book you can imagine as the author, Erin Gleeson from The Forest Feast, also hand painted – and wrote part of the book. All the colors and recipes in this book are so lively, so natural and so delicious, it will make even the most die-hard anti-vegetarian want to try it. It’s the perfect way to bring some vegetarian recipes into your life, either as a fulltime lifestyle choice or just to bring some variety in your diet, on Meat-free Mondays for example.

About the author: Erin Gleeson

Erin GleesonTalented artist and professional food photographer Erin Gleeson began her blog, The Forest Feast, in 2011 to document the beauty and simplicity of vegetarian food. Her recipes contain very few ingredients (less than 5 in many cases) and are notable for their simplicity and creative flavours.

For many years I worked as a food photographer in New York City, shooting for cookbooks, magazines, top chefs and restaurants, The New York Times Dining section, and The James Beard Foundation. I also have an MFA in photography from SVA and I taught photography to college students at The Fashion Institute of Technology for 4 years. But in the summer of 2011, my husband Jonathan’s new job prompted a move to Northern California (just south of San Francisco) where we found a lovely cabin in the woods.

Inspired by local, seasonal ingredients in my weekly CSA box, I create “photographic recipe illustrations” that are mostly vegetarian and laid out visually. I hope to inspire healthy recipe ideas anyone can make- dishes that are easy enough after a long day at work, yet impressive enough for a party.

Book description

The natural beauty of her surroundings and the abundance of local produce serve as the inspiration for The Forest Feast, based on her popular blog. Most of the book’s 100 wholly vegetarian recipes, organised according to dish type (appetizers, salads, main courses, sweets and cocktails), call for only three or four ingredients and require very few steps, resulting in dishes that are fresh, wholesome, delicious, and stunning. The majority of these recipes are brand new and never seen before on her site.

Among the delightful recipes are eggplant tacos with brie and cilantro, rosemary shortbread, and blackberry negroni. Presented in a unique redisn with vibrant photographs, complemented by Erin’s own fanciful watercolor illustrations and hand lettering, showcase the rustic simplicity of the dishes. Part cookbook, part art book, The Forest Feast will be as comfortable in the kitchen as on the coffee table.

You can buy this book on Amazon UK, Amazon US or Amazon DE. And of course, don’t forget to check out Erin’s fantastic blog
