Superhealthy ‘this is not a detox juice’ beetroot juice with apples and carrots
super easy

I’m not into diets, I’m sure you know that by now if you have been following my blog a bit. But I do like healthy treats! One very easy thing to do after those big, heavy Holiday meals? Treat yourself to a superhealthy juice in the morning and eat light but balanced and nutritious meals the rest of the day.
Now I have to set get one thing clear right away: this is not a detox juice. “What? Why?!” Because detox juices are a scam! Shocked? I was when I discovered this thanks to my Swedish friend Daniel. A juice won’t detox your body.. Detoxing or the idea that you can flush your system of impurities and leave your organs squeaky clean is a fantasy. He linked me up to a very interesting scientific article about cleansing and detox diets based on juices. The conclusion? “Any approach that leads to healthy long-term success is a good one.
A fast done correctly can lead to many positive outcomes such as improvements in blood lipids. If a glass of juice or a cup of tea can keep a person away from too much alcohol or unhealthy food, then that is certainly a step in the right direction. However, it is important to remember that nutrition is one part of a healthy lifestyle, not the center of it. Other areas in life must be balanced too and it is crucial to find foods and lifestyle adjustments tailored to your internal biochemistry. One size almost never fits all.”
Detoxing
“Detox is a case of a legitimate medical term being turned into a marketing strategy. In the setting of real medicine, detoxification means treatments for dangerous levels of drugs, alcohol, or poisons, like heavy metals.”
More on the subject of detoxing, Edzard Ernst, emeritus professor of complementary medicine at Exeter University says: “You can go on a seven-day detox diet and you’ll probably lose weight, but that’s nothing to do with toxins. It’s because you would have starved yourself for a week. If toxins did build up in a way your body couldn’t excrete, he says, you’d likely be dead or in need of serious medical intervention. The healthy body has kidneys, a liver, skin, even lungs that are detoxifying as we speak,” he says.
So there you have it, don’t use healthy juices thinking it will detox you. Use it as part of a healthy lifestyle but don’t let it be your only healthy thing in life. It’s not the juice that makes you lose weight. It’s the fact that you’re not eating calories. And please don’t go starve yourself, no one benefits from that. So make sure you find a lifestyle that suits you best. Eat different types of meals throughout the week and don’t be afraid to let yourself go every once in a while. Just make there is a balance, because balancing your life is the best thing you can for yourself. Don’t go from one extreme to another. Don’t ‘punish’ yourself with nasty detox juice diets but treat your body to some good stuff all year round.
Health benefits of beetroot, carrots, and apples
And that’s what this beetroot juice can help you with! Why is it so good for your body and general health? Because of the great benefits you get from eating/drinking raw beets. “The health benefits of beets include the treatment of anemia, indigestion, constipation, piles, kidney disorders, dandruff, gall bladder disorders, cancer, and heart disease. It also helps to prevent macular degeneration, improve blood circulation, aid in skin care, prevent cataracts and mediate respiratory problems. These health benefits of beet roots can be attributed to their richness in nutrients, vitamins and minerals.” – Organicfacts.
But it’s not just the beets, the carrots are good for you too! World’s healthiest foods explains: “Packed with health-promoting beta carotene, they promote good vision, especially night vision, and help combat health-damaging free radical activity.” Carrots are high in antioxidants, which is something that does your body real good. “Free radicals are harmful molecules that can be anywhere, including in the air you breathe, cigarette smoke or the foods you eat. Antioxidants protect the body’s cells from damage due to free radicals. The most common antioxidants include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and carotenoids, including beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein.” – Livestrong
Same thing can be said for apples, as they are also extremely rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fiber. “The phytonutrients and antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.”, says Medical News Today
So there you have it, a juice that won’t detox your body, but it will give you a health boost with a lot of benefits in the long run if you drink it more often!
